Strategy First University Alumni Charter



Introduction


The Strategy First University (SFU) was established since 2010 by U Aung Chit Khin with the aim providing business and management courses for those who were actively seeking learning opportunities to build their knowledge and education as well as to advance their careers. Initially it was started as an Institute (Strategy First Institute) and in 2020 it became a university holding the official license issued by the Myanmar Investment Commission.

There are many types of programmes and courses offered by the university. It consists of the professional development courses belonged to the international professional education bodies such as ICM, obe, PMI, SQA, and in-house programmes such as own business management (CBM), SFUx and SFU. Meanwhile, the university (degree) education programmes are being run at the undergraduate level and postgraduate level for the areas of business management, business IT and civil engineering.

The SFU has been breeding many thousands of certificate holders, diploma holders and graduates every year. The number of students who studied in and graduated from the university is sizable and most of them are playing well their parts in the economy and society. Hence, it is desirable to keep in touch with each other and to collaborate among the alumni for the benefits of individual and our community. For this purpose, this charter of alumni is drawn for the implementation of the united community of the Strategy First University.


Name


This is the community of the Strategy First University with the successfully completed students studied in the university. The community is officially named as "SFU Alumni. The SFU Alumni is registered as a social organization.


Objectives


SFU Alumni has the following objectives:

  1. To organize the community systematically and purposefully in accordance with the charter's principles.
  2. To keep in touch with each other among members of the alumni in person as well as through communication networks.
  3. To provide helps to those who are suffering from various kinds of natural disasters and tragedies.
  4. To provide continuous learning opportunities to the members through various kinds of assistance.
  5. To organize educational events such as conference, workshops and seminars.
  6. To organize social activities such as get-together parties, trips and excursions.

Membership


Whoever studied and completed successfully the programme can join the SFU Alumni. For this the application must be submitted to the Membership Committee by filling up the membership form together with the certificate(s) attained from the university. The membership requires the payment of member fee and it must be paid on yearly basis. A life-time membership can also be granted by the Membership Committee.


Leadership & Governing Body


The SFU Alumni is to be governed and administered by a democratically elected group of members, namely Executive Committee (EC) led by an elected president. The procedure of selection of an EC is as follows:

  1. The University's president will form an Election Committee with suitable representatives of old students and staff. This committee is responsible for free and fair election of representatives of old students. The committee must apply the method of secret voting in electing the representatives or Executive Committee (EC) member and later the Central Executive Committee (CEC).
  2. The constituencies are set as follows:
    • Programme (eg. ICM), subject (eg Marketing), Batch (e.g. 15)-2 class representatives
    • The online voting system will be applied in electing the class representatives.
  3. Those who are able to work in the CEC must submit their name to the Election Committee with their proposal of Alumni Activities. The online voting system will be applied in electing the CEC. The required number CEC can be fixed by the election committee.
  4. Out of the elected CEC members, one President, one General Secretary, one Treasurer and one Auditor must be appointed through the process of nomination and secret voting. Before the voting, candidates must be given equal opportunities to present their plans for the alumni.
  5. The elected president can form the appropriated sub working committees on the volunteer basis.
  6. The Alumni can be formed in one community or different communities based on geographical locations, eg Yangon, Mandalay, etc.

Role & Responsibilities


The President must play the leadership and executive role to undertaking various functions and activities in line with the objectives of the SFU Alumni.

The tenure is two years and the CEC members are allowed to reelect in the next round unless there is no objection by election committee.

The alumni is financially and administratively independent from the Strategy First University and none others.

The conduct of the leadership and activities must be purely genuine being free from personal interest. It must be purely operated by the social and volunteer-oriented spirit. Hence, there will be no pay or salaries. However, for the successful and effective running of the Alumni operations and activities, necessary staff can be hired.

It is necessary also to report the activities and financial status of the Alumni to all members and to call regular meeting and assembly where the members are accessible the information and raise questions concerning the published information.

The Alumni is a registered social organization and it is necessary to abide the rules and regulations concerning with social organisations.
